Yam ginger smoothie, I know you all might think this is a little unusual, however it’s time we all broke out of our comfort zone and got a little adventurous. Yam in a smoothie? What? Yes! It’s amazing I promise and combined with the ginger and turmeric it is so good for you.
I’ve been breaking away from my typical green smoothies for a while and testing the waters, coconut water that is. Switching it up a bit. I usually don’t use nut milks either in my smoothies although I know they make it delicious, and would be totally acceptable in this recipe and in my Peach Turmeric Smoothie too. I just use plain filtered water, but decided to branch out a bit with using coconut water and enjoy the additional health benefits it has to offer. Add in the spices and orange, apple, coconut oil and carrot and you have a nutrient dense smoothie.
In case you haven’t heard turmeric is a spice that will benefit your body in so many ways. We all probably have some form of inflammation in our bodies in one place or another, some of us more than others. Turmeric and ginger are two spices that aid in reducing that inflammation amongst other benefits. So get ready to adjust your taste buds and pull up your boot straps and get adventurous with this Yam Ginger Smoothie.

Val, This one sounds delicious. Question: if we scrub the peel before cooking it, could we include it in the smoothie for added nutrition?

Paula,
You could give it a try, I used my yam the next morning when it was cold and the skin seem tough. The added nutrition would be great, let me know how it goes if you try it. With a Vitamix it just might work. I’ll try it next time.
