Mistakes. It’s what we learn from right? So I guess we have to make them if we expect to do some learning.
Today I made some of my Rhubarb Coffee Cake and must have been in too much of a rush or trying to do too much at one time, or didn’t have my glasses on. It could have been one of those or all three. Whichever, I misread the recipe and added 3 tsp of baking soda instead of 3 tsp of baking powder, actually I think I might have added both. In my hast I questioned myself, and then got interrupted and didn’t look into my hunch that I had just made a mistake and promptly forgot all about it. I think I was still half asleep.
I had made the coffee cake to take to a brunch the next morning with family, but since my husband wasn’t going to be able to come with us, I cut out a piece for him and sampled it at the same time. I must have got a good bite because I still didn’t taste my mistake, until I picked up a small piece that I had dropped on the counter and stuck it in my mouth. Gag, cough, and a light bulb went off in my head of what I had done.
Fortunately I had time to remake it and correct my mistake, when I went and looked at the recipe I realized what I had done. Baking soda instead of baking powder, or like I said probably both. Trying to make this quickly before I left for work got me into trouble. So what did I learn, hummm maybe I’m not as good of multitasker as I thought, and glasses, always wear my glasses.
