Fresh Citrus Smoothie was just the drink I needed the other day when I got home and after a long day in the city and felt a little dehydrated. I believe it is so important to listen to your body and give it what it needs. It isn’t very often that my body is saying “can I have a chocolate brownie”, chuckle. However it’s not unusual to feel the need for a green smoothie. When I’m in need of some greens or maybe a little detox, I make a nutrient dense smoothie and treat it as a meal. There are plenty of times I have a green smoothie as breakfast, however I’m talking about when just out of the blue I feel the need for something green.
The freshness of this citrus smoothie revitalized me and put some pep in my step and satisfied the nutrients that my body was asking for. The blend of the tangerine, apple and parsley gives it a little zip and the coconut oil and turmeric add even more flavor. Besides all the benefits of these fruits and spices, the greens, hemp hearts and coconut water add even more to the nutrition this smoothie provides. Yeah for so much nutrition in a glass!
If you could do yourself and your body one favor a week, it would be to make yourself a green smoothie, whether it be this Fresh Citrus Smoothie or a Maca Mango Smoothie or even a Yam Ginger Smoothie, any one of these will give your body plenty of vitamins and minerals. You don’t need to wait until your body gives you signals that you are in need of what a green smoothie can provide. Make it for a quick dinner or plan on starting your day with it tomorrow.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup coconut water
- 2 tablespoons hemp hearts
- 2 cups of greens
- 1 small apple
- 1 tangerine
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated turmeric
- 1 cup ice
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in the order listed and blend.
